“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you respond to it.” -Charles Swindoll

I read that quote one of my favourite blog today. I think its going to be one of my favorite quote from now on. Because I believe its true.

We all have our happy moments and sad moments. There are times that you feel you’re on top of the world (nobody can’t touch you) and there are times when you are so down untill nobody can reach you (or even want to).

How do you respond when the going gets rough? You feel sad, don’t you?

We always think that, if we want to be happy, we have to work or make ourselves happy. We breathe in and do the positive thinking and pray that everything is going to be very okay. We WORK for it. It’s an effort.

But do you know that, if we want to feel sad, we do have to work for it as well? okay, no body wants to be sad, but subconsciously, we are still putting an effort into it.

Ask yourself, what do you do when you feel sad?

  • You lower your shoulders
  • You lower your head
  • Your breathing gets shallow
  • You make your face look sad (facial expression)

Of course you don’t plan for all this to happen, but it did, right?

Dont believe me? I want you to do something so I can prove to you that YOU are the one that is controlling all of this. YOU are the one that is making you feel sad.

I learn this from one of my favorite teacher, Tony Robbins.

Here’s what to do:

Sit up straight. Heads looking to ceiling and give a big smile. Breathe in, deeply, and let it out.

chin up,big grin,big smile

Now, while maintaining all of this position, TRY to be or feel sad.

Wait! don’t change anything. chin up, heads to ceiling, smile on your face, inhale and exhale.

can you be sad when you’re in this position?

NO!

Why? You need to be in the ’sad position’ in order for you to feel sad. You send the ‘message’ to your brain to feel that way, and thats how you WILL feel.

If you think about it for a second, who is controlling all of this behavior? Its YOU!

Okay, im not saying you need to do all that in order to be happy all the time, but here are my 2 key points to remember:

1. If you want to be sad, you need to work for it

2. Therefore, you have the control on what you feel at the moment.

Now, lets look back at the quote by Charles Swindoll again,

““Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you respond to it.”
